The Struggle for Civil rights
17) Kennedy –“with a stroke of a pen”
Kennedy's promise to eliminate discrimination in federally aided housing with just a stroke of the pen but in fact took longer than expected. Impatient African Americans took to sending pens to JFK to remind him throught the mail.
18) Freedom rides
Organized students who rode buses to test the anti discrimination laws which resulted in violent attacks and the outcome of these freedom rides also pushed Kennedy to finally take action against discrimination.
19) Kennedy & MLK
Kennedy and MLK took great action in civil rights campaigns but without the urgency of MLK none of this would have come to fruition.
20) Voter Edu project
A program that was designed to help educate the many uneducated voters so that they would make the right decisions.
21) James Meredith
A Civil Rights activist who was the first African American admitted into the University of Missisippi.
22) MLK in Birmingham
MLK went to Birmingham, Alabama to test the validity of Desegregation but was attacked and arrested by local authorities utilizing various weapons.
23) MLK march to Washington
MLK marched to Washington as his final protest to the nation and this march finally persuaded the government to overturn and enforce desegreation immediatly.
